We are now searching for a talented, experienced and collaborative Head of Admissions & Student wellbeing, passionate about social innovation and ready take the challenge of designing and implementing truly innovative people-centred recruitment, admissions and monitoring student well being processes for CodeSchool.
At CodeSchool (CS) we believe that young people have the right to meaningful education, decent work, gender equality and income security. However, since 2005 around 500,000 young people between the ages of 18-35 have returned to Mexico from the United States, around 75% of them are unable to find formal employment. The premise for the next 4 years: + deportations of around 75 thousand young people a year. Furthermore, those who are able to find jobs, are exposed to different forms of abuse, lack of social or income security and unsafe working conditions at alarming rates. In addition, they will join the 1.2 million young women and men in Mexico who face the job search every year; without support networks and recognition of prior studies.
At the same time the tech and software development sectors in Mexico experience growth at an unprecedented pace. Currently the demand of human capital in IT has grown above the national supply.
To tap into the high paced tech sector’s demand of software engineers, we paired up with the best coding bootcamp in the United States to provide the best curriculum. We have designed an immersive people-centred programme, in which we provide technical and soft skills for life. We support students’ path so they can access employment with career-growth opportunities, secure income, social benefits and gender equality in the tech sector. We believe that through dignified employment in tech young women and men can hack a better future for themselves and their families.
This is a powerful opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a deep interest in social matters, disruptive innovation and education in technology as means to break poverty and inequality that many young people are exposed to. CodeSchool is about to start its first program in Mexico and we want to make sure we have designed the most effective process of tapping into potential talent in the most unexpected places to find our students.
As the Head of Admissions & Student wellbeing you will have the opportunity to:
• Create high quality learning and livelihood opportunities for underserved young women and men. • Re-design an innovative people-centred recruitment strategy around the specific needs of the communities we are looking to work with. • Disrupt and improve our existing admissions process to be focused completely on tapping into potential talent - thus changing the traditional means in which “talent” has been captured. • Implement the processes with the communities we are serving and create operating manuals. • Monitor each student’s progress and wellbeing (psychological and emotional) and coordinate the actions required to enhance their experience.
The Head of Admissions & Student wellbeing should exhibit the following characteristics and experience:
• +5 Years of significant experience in recruitment, admissions or academic services in a higher education institution or other related organizations. • Considerable experience working with underserved communities. • Experience researching and reporting both quantitative and qualitative data. Previous experience with participatory methodologies a plus. • Experience contributing to the development and launch of short and long-term organizational plans and strategies, with the view to delivering operational excellence. • Significant experience working with people and coordinating actions with a team.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity. • Managing, organising and analysing diverse expert inputs to create concrete actions. • Ability to develop and set direction as well as implement change; must have evidence of successfully initiating new structure and process. • Handling extremely complex stakeholders as well as comfort working under uncertainty. • Strong ability to listen and sustain momentum, pushing for timely action. • Enthusiastic and optimistic who deeply believes that social entrepreneurship has the potential to bring about social change. • Knowledge of psychological work in non-traditional admission processes, social development and people-centred approaches highly desirable. • Being familiar with software engineering and coding bootcamps is desirable. • A great ambition to adapt the best software engineering bootcamp to provide real social mobility opportunities for underserved youth. • Fluency in English and Spanish.
The position will require domestic and international travel.
